Here's When Your Samsung Galaxy Will Get Android 13

Android 13, the newest operating system upgrade for Android-powered smartphones and tablets, was recently launched by Google. It's currently accessible on Google Pixel phones such as Google Pixel 5 and Google Pixel 6 or 6A (there are several differences between Google Pixel 6 and 6A that you need to know to choose the suitable pixel for you).

In a public beta, Samsung is already testing the One UI 5.0 upgrade for Android 13. Stackable widgets on the home screen, additional color theme options, selectable call backdrops for each contact, enhanced reminders, a programmable spacebar row in Samsung Keyboard, upgrades to Samsung DeX, and a lot more are all included in Samsung's Android 13 update.

Release Date of the Samsung Android 13 Update

Samsung hasn't validated the exact date of delivering the finished version of its Android 13 to Samsung devices.  However, Google promises that it will be released before the end of 2022. We can also guess based on the last few years.

On October 4, 2021, Google launched Android 12, and Samsung began sending out the same version (One UI 4) to its smartphones in late November. However, a few issues were found, so the upgrade was put on hold until the end of December.

Google launched Android 12 in September 2020, and Samsung began spreading it out in late December and early January.

Mobile Devices that Receive Android 13 Update

Although Samsung hasn't revealed the complete list of phones and tablets that will receive Android 13, it has guaranteed specific update schedules for most of its products. For instance, since Samsung guaranteed "three generations" of upgrades for the Galaxy S10 when it was introduced in 2019, it is likely to remain on Android 12, given it has previously received updates for Android 10, 11, and 12.

Based on their original software commitment (three "generations" for most devices) and the Android version they debuted with, the following list of smartphones and tablets should receive Android 13:

  • Galaxy S20 series (started on Android 10)

  • Galaxy S21 series (started on Android 11)

  • Galaxy S22 series (started on Android 12)

  • Galaxy Note 20 series (started on Android 10)

  • Galaxy Tab S8 series (started on Android 12)

  • Galaxy Tab S7 series (started on Android 10)

  • Galaxy Z Fold 2, Fold 3, and Fold 4 (started on Android 10+)

  • Galaxy Z Flip, Flip 3, and Flip 4 (started on Android 10+)

  • Galaxy A52 and A53 (started on Android 11 and 12, respectively)

  • Galaxy A71, A72, and A73 (started on Android 10+)

Final Thoughts

We're sure the Galaxy S10 series won't get Android 13, but the Galaxy S10 Lite, released later, may get. The same is true for the Note 10 series and, eventually, the Note 10 Lite.

Even though certain phones will not receive Android 13, Samsung often offers security updates for far longer than complete Android upgrades. For example, the Galaxy S10 series is still covered by a full year of security updates.
